This diploma thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. The is a review om the topic of recycled asphalt pavement and recycled concrete and their possible use in road construction in the theoretical part. The individual chapters deal with describing these materials, their production, and their use in construction layers of pavements. In the next chapters the attention is also paid to their problematic features and foreign experience using these materials in pavements. In the practical part, laboratory samples of recycled asphalt pavement and recycled concrete and their mixtures with cement are tested. The main purpose is to verify the applications of these mixtures of recycled asphalt pavement and recycled concrete in the bonded base layers of the pavement. Another purpose is to compare how these mixtures individual properties with different proportions of both components and different amounts of cement will be different. In the end, the two mixtures with the best properties was selected and the modulus of elasticity was experimentally determined for the possibility of replacing the currently used base layers and the economic evaluation of this design was made.
Bound mixtures for the base layers of pavements using glass fibers
Elabd, Ahmed Samy ; Šperka, Pavel (referee) ; Stehlík, Dušan (advisor)
This thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part gathers available information on bound mixtures for base layers of pavements, providing basic information on the most commonly used types of recycled materials and their use in roads. It also includes various types of binders and requirements for their use. The thesis also explains the importance of reducing the amount of dosed hydraulic binders to eliminate negative impacts on the environment and for economic reasons, offering an alternative possibility of stabilizing soils into mixtures for subbase layers of roads. The practical part of this thesis focuses on the possibility of using glass fibers as a reinforcing element at low doses of binder. The main goal was to evaluate the designed mixtures with a hydraulic binder with the addition of glass fibers, depending on the results of bound mixtures with only glass fiber addition. These options were verified and subsequently compared using laboratory tests.
Unbound mixtures to the pavement base layers

The subject of this bachelor’s thesis is the possibility of using alternative materials in base road layers. Specifically It‘s about different granular material from mines (fraction 0/22) and recyclate, the possibility of their their classification within the used base layers and assessment of their suitability for specific structural layer. The thesis subject is also assessment of suitability of laboratory tests currently used in the Czech Republic and is trying to deal with the question whether these tests are ideal or not. The theoretical part summarizes the currently used base layers, their properties, technology of their implementation and It explains the current testing system. The aim of the thesis is to define mechanical properties of the examined materials, compare them and evaluate them.
The utilization of the pavement waste materials to roads
Furdaničová, Alice ; Šperka, Pavel (referee) ; Stehlík, Dušan (advisor)
The diploma thesis deals with the use of recycled asphalt with aggregate in a hydraulically bound mixtures. The mixture is determined in the base or sub-base course of the pavement. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis describes the base course of the pavement, the production of recyclates from construction demolition waste, the acquisition and processing of recycled asphalt, the road reuse and recycling. The thesis is enriched by a contribution from the implementation of recycled asphalt laying into the base course of the communication company SKANSKA a.s. and ČNES a.s. The next chapter describes detailed experiences with recycling abroad. The thesis also contains a description of laboratory tests, which are important for evaluating the properties of mixtures with recycled asphalt. The practical part verifies the suitability of the mixture of recycled asphalt and aggregate for the road surface by testing the transverse tensile strength, compressive strength and frost and water resistance. The mixtures used are found to be suitable for pavement base course.
Waste building materials to base layers of the pavements
Žďára, Zbyněk ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Stehlík, Dušan (advisor)
This bachelor thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, there is processed information about recycled construction waste and their possible use in road construction in the form of research. The individual chapters deal with the description of these materials, their production, their use in base layers of the pavement and attention is also paid to their problematic features and foreign experience. In the practical part, laboratory samples of recycled asphalt pavement and recycled aggregates were tested. The main purpose was to find out if it was possible to use a mixture of recycled asphalt pavement and recycled aggregates in the base layers of the pavement with a low traffic load. Another purpose was to compare the properties of mixtures with different content of both recycled materials and to see how the bearing capacity of these mixtures changes when an elevated temperature is applied to them.
Asphalt recyclated material for base and subbase layers of pavements
Winterová, Karin ; Hýzl, Petr (referee) ; Stehlík, Dušan (advisor)
This bachelor thesis reviews the use of asphalt recyclated material and its application in the base and subbase layers of pavements. In addition to domestic knowledge, a foreign experience with the use of tested material and also covers currently used technologies for the processing of asphalt recyclates into the constructional layers of roads.is presented. Possibile application of asphalt recyclates in the unblemished and coated subbase layer of the road are verified in the practical part
Improvement of soils for pavement subgrade

The bachelor thesis deals with improvement of unsuitable soils for pavement subgrade. The theoretical part describes technologies of modification and materials employed for improving soils in our country and abroad. The main target of the practical part is observing bearing capacity of unimproved and improved soils and comparing the results.
The frost susceptibility of the soils and materials to subgrade of the pavements
Mašek, Jakub ; Zajíček, Jan (referee) ; Stehlík, Dušan (advisor)
This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the determination of the frost susceptibility of soils in the subgrades of road structures. The theoretical part compares the ways of testing the frost susceptibility in the Czech Republic and other selected countries of the European Union. Furthermore, it also deals with the development of the frost susceptibility index in the Czech Republic. The empirical part focuses on the laboratory testing of the frost susceptibility of the given sample of soil by the direct frost heave method. Moreover, it also deals with the simulation of penetration of frost by the subgrade and the possibility of shortening the length of the freezing during the direct testing the frost susceptibility.
Frost susceptibility of soils and waste materials to pavement subgrade
Sokolová, Veronika ; Mondschein,, Petr (referee) ; Stehlík, Dušan (advisor)
Destruction of road constructions due to the frost is in locations with temperatures under the zero a problem which leads to permanent deformation. The theoretical part of this thesis deals with the freezing process of the pavement and its subgrade. It presents methods for determining the rate of frost susceptibility in both the Czech Republic and abroad. Describes the materials used in the subgrade of roads and their suitability in terms of frost susceptibility. The thesis closely examines the fly-ashes, their properties and possibilities of using in the construction industry. The practical part of the thesis focuses on the performance of direct laboratory frost heave tests, immediate bearing index tests, California bearing ratio tests and cyclic load triaxial tests to determine the modulus of elasticity. Tests are carried out on the soil, the soil mixtures with certain percentages of fly ash from different sources at the same soil treated with lime. Then the results are compared and dependence between the measured characteristics of materials is created.
